The Need

THE NEED

Fathom a generation growing up without any speck of education in the 21st century? How would they fit in the modern society? Countenance the loss interms of human productivity? Picture a situation where a teenage, innocent and vulnerable girl s are used as commodities for generating wealth for their fathers by giving them off through arranged marriages? Picture a population of around 600,000 people living within an area of three square miles in mud walled shanties measuring 6 ft. x 8 ft with no utilities like running water, electricity and scarcity of toilets to the extent of using ‘flying ‘toilets. Despite of all the efforts put by multi agencies to combat the HIV/AIDs scourge, imagine a situation where todate HIV infection continue to ravage residents of Mathare valley slum claiming lives of both parents eaving their children to fend for themselves. The exit of parents/ responsible guardians at this early age for the children coupled by the need to tend for themselves implies that majority of the affected children do not enroll into School. Given the prevailing socio economic environment where people lead gang like life, the young and growing become socialized into juvenile delinquency and immorality from which they graduate into hard core criminals and candidates for prison facilities thus wasting any potential and resourcefulness in their possession..
